siDEVO: Blind Vision

Mark 10:46-49 – “Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me”. Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”

Because Bart was blind, he was forced to take matters into his own hands: He stood along the street corner begging like he was a Salvation Army Volunteer to provide for himself. He had no “American Disabilities Act of 1990” to give him equal opportunity. He didn’t receive food stamps or social services. He had to be his own strength or face certain death ‘cuz no one else was going to live life for him.

Bart could have minimized his blindness saying, “My vision is little jacked up. I don’t need help from no one.” But as Jesus came around, Bart saw his own blindness. Bart used his abilities to his advantage. Bart HEARD it was Jesus, with the commotion of the crowd, he knew something was different. Bart SAW his opportunity with Jesus in close proximity. He believed without seeing. Bart CALLED unto Jesus for healing.

Bart could have succumbed to the desires of everyone around him as they told him to shut up, but he didn’t. He kept on and Jesus met him at his point of decision (verse 49). Bart dropped his jacket (something of major value to the poor and blind), jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.

Maybe you’re in a spot where you’ve just realized that this blind kat has better vision than you do. He came to Christ with his problem and fought to know God no matter what that hype crowd was telling him. At that moment, Bart entirely put his life unto the hands of Jesus the Christ. “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” “Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.” (Verse 52)

To be able to see your own vision, you must first see your own blindness.
