SHACHAH NAMED FINALIST IN GOSPEL MUSIC CHANNEL VIDEO AWARDS

SHACHAH=200Up & Coming Southern California Band’s Debut Video Nominated Alongside tobyMac and Mary Mary

Nashville, TN – Cross Movement Records is pleased to announce that up & coming Southern California band Shachah (pronounced ‘sha-KA’) has been nominated as a finalist in the 2009 Gospel Music Channel Video Awards (GMCVAs) in the pop category for their video “Arise (Stand Up)” from their debut album On the Move. The young band is in stellar company––“Arise (Stand Up),” their debut video, is nominated alongside videos from tobyMac with Kirk Franklin & Mandisa, Mary Mary and The Wrecking.

The GMCVAs honors the top videos in seven genre categories: Rock, Pop, Country, Soul, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Praise & Worship, as well as the overall “Top Video of the Year.” The nominees in each category were selected by a GMC Blue Ribbon Committee and winners will be chosen by viewers via online voting. Viewers can cast votes for their favorites at (www.gospelmusicchannel.com/gmcva) through Nov. 13, 2009.

The winning videos in each of the seven categories become eligible to win “GMC Video of the Year,” which will be selected by a GMC Blue Ribbon Committee. The 2009 GMCVA winners will be announced in a one-hour television special to premiere on GMC on Saturday, January 2, 2010.

“We are so honored to receive this nomination from The Gospel Music Channel,” said Shachah’s Earl Mergelsberg. “And we are blown away to be nominated in the company of artists like tobyMac and Mary Mary on our first video!”

The four members of Shachah—lead singer Brenden “Proclaim” McPeek, guitarist Josh Wagner, bassist Earl Mergelsberg and drummer Stephen Anderson—came together initially at Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, Calif., crafting their sound while leading worship for a Costa Mesa college ministry. Doors began to open for the group as their highly stylized sound and message-driven songs began to impact the Southern California area, and Shachah began traveling the globe as “musicianaries,” performing everywhere from open-air concerts in Russia to outreach shows in Palm Desert.

Shachah’s distinct musical style marks an atypical pairing for the traditionally hip-hop-oriented Cross Movement Records. “After 11 years of focusing on mostly Christian hip-hop, we found great appeal in Shachah’s music, which blew us away,” comments Wells. “It also seemed the right time to get behind a West Coast band that incorporates elements of rock, funk and reggae in their sound. Diversity is what is happening in the culture right now, and a Christian label committed to reaching the world for Christ will offer the best music representative of that culture.”

Shachah’s On the Move and their recent sophomore release Let the Light In are both available on Cross Movement Records and distributed in the CBA market by Provident-Integrity Distribution and by Sony Music Entertainment in the general market.
