Artist Devo: Our Father, Which Art… (2Edge)

And you have forgotten the exhortation, which speaks to you as to sons:  “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.  If you endure chastening, God deals with you, as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? (Hebrews 12:5-7. Please read Hebrews12:3-13)

I can remember many times as a child wondering why and how I could get into trouble for the simplest things.  Up the block, kids would be out after dark playing but my mother thought it was best for me to be in the house before the street lights came on.  I thought it wasn’t fair because their parents let them do whatever they wanted to do.  As I got older, I realized a true parent cared about whatever their children were doing.  Being concerned is setting guidelines and boundaries so that protection from harm and danger is always the atmosphere.

Well, why would God be any different?  He wants the best for all of His children.  So, if that requires being corrected, being chastised, being rebuked and given discipline for our wrong doing, Let It Be.  Now that I know why He does this, I’d much rather have the Father show me that He is concerned about my welfare than have Him let me do whatever I want.

Maybe it’s because He’s already been down this road and He knows what’s going to happen if I do the same.  Honestly, if we were chastised for half of the things that we did wrong, we’d think that God is mean.  He gives grace in many cases of actions without displaying true wrath, yet we complain when He corrects us.  All God is doing is protecting His own. God is concerned about our everyday lives just like an earthly father should be with his children.  Our Father is in Heaven wanting the best for us and waiting for the moment that He gets a genuine response from His children of appreciation.

Take the time today and look at your life and see if there is anything that is grieving God.  If there is, ask for forgiveness and Let God do His thing…Amen!!!!
