J Prophet’s “Black History Anthem” Saluting Black History Month

BHM CoverGospel Hip Hop Artist J PROPHET announced today that he has released a “Black History Anthem” saluting Black History Month. In addition to the anthem, J PROPHET has developed a curriculum based on the anthem and a video that can be downloaded from his website www.jprophet.com. “During a recent performance of the song I asked those in the audience if they had ever heard of Fannie Lou Hamer, Ella Baker and others mentioned in the song, when many indicated that they had never heard of these individuals, I decided to develop a curriculum based on the anthem that teachers could utilize in the classroom” said J PROPHET. While he is inherently a poet, Hip Hop culture has emerged as his deep passion. J PROPHET’S urban sound blends Hip Hop, Gospel and Spoken Word Poetry. This is a sound that has been heavily influenced by Kirk Franklyn, Mary Mary, Lauryn Hill and Cross Movement.

J PROPHET’s most recent mixtape GETTING MY SHAPE UP VOL.1 offers introspective reflection as well as social commentary on each song and can be downloaded at www.jprophet.com. One track from the mixtape, “Overdosin” was selected as the #4 song in 2010 on Wade -O –Radio.

A 2010 graduate of Yale University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in African-American Studies, J PROPHET is now attending Yale Divinity School where he has begun a three-year Master of Divinity Program.
