What do you get when you take vinyl recordings and cut them into little bitty pieces, glue them together and cover them up with the living word ? You get a work that is “mended”. On this project by Paradox and DJ Sean P you get a peek into the Underground music style laced with a message of encouragement, truth, and enlightenment. As for myself I never cared too much for the underground style rap, until I got my hands on this project and paid close attention to what was being said.

The features on this release that made the album appealing was particularly that of Sivion, Braille, Sintax, Wonder Brown, and Freddie Bruno. When I say appealing I am talking about as far as seeing the track-list and physically wanting to listen to the CD.

Now as far as listening to the CD it is a well-rounded release with a double benefit for both the listeners and the artists looking to release a mix-tape or a remix. You look at the content and you have not only a full project, but you also have every instrumental track of every song on the project in your hands which will make many people happy.

My first listen through the project reminded me how much that lyricism is an art-form and how many underground rappers push that art to an extreme limit. Lyrics are honed and expressive with rhyme schemes and word-play that can really intrigue the mind.

If I had to choose the best songs in a bracket of 3, I personally would say that they would be:

  • Here Lies (Feat. Griffin and Relic)
  • Blessed Broken Shared (Feat. Sivion and Sintax)
  • Man vs. Self (Feat. manCHILD)

Underground Hip-Hop is a unique style, and sometimes appears to be a dying breed or a buried style. Paradox brings life and sheds light on this style as well as many of the featured artists beyond what I’ve mentioned. Paradox is not your average rapper, and he has something to tell you with plenty of vocabulary to do it. From witty wordplay, braggadocio punchlines, and more straightforward jams to heartfelt storytelling, thought-provoking introspection, and serious listening music, this truly is hip hop with a purpose, and messages both upfront as well as subliminal.

Originality is something that truly is inspiring and when the music captivates that of the original origins of it’s kind is when I feel that it’s really good. Original hip-hop was meant to educate, inform, and grasp the listener at the same time… Paradox has done just that.
