2012 Kingdom Choice Awards Recap
New York (NY) – The word on the street is that without question, the Kingdom Choice Awards is the official Christian Hip Hop/Urban Gospel music award show in the country!
By the time 2012 honoree Pettidee entered the lobby with artists Brinson,Transparent, Gauge and others, the excitement was on 10!
By 7:10pm the lobby was quickly cleared by KTE staff and patrons proceeded to take their seats in the theater.
Tina Dixon of WHCR 90.3fm greeted the KCA crowd with an exciting and humorous welcome and proceeded to introduce the 2012 host, the legendaryCorey Red. The theater lights went out and everything was in darkness. Then the big screen lit up with a flashing KCA logo followed by an explosive video introduction. The legend then walked on stage to a very excited and cheering crowd.

The C.H.R.I.S and Co’s performance was definitely one of the highlights of the night. Within the first 30 seconds of their set, the music shut off due to an abrupt system malfunction on the DJ’s system. Instead of waiting for the DJ’s system to reload, C.H.R.I.S went straight acapella and shut the place down!

A special moment was when 2012 KCA honoree Pettidee was honored with “Kingdom General Award“. Petty was clearly touched by the honor and shared his heart in a way that we have never seen before.

The night continued with more awesome performances by Jacksonville’s own,Brinson also Sean C. Johnson (Okla) and a neck breaking performance byGideonz Army (ATL).
I don’t think anyone will forget the “New York State of Rhymes” cypher performance. This was a special set by a coalition of New York City and New Jersey artists featuring SeDa, Gauge, Slave Da 9th Inning,Malakai The Truth, Daarinah and Pryzna. It was definitely hot.

As the night begun to draw to a close, Andy Mineo of Reach Records hit the stage and absolutely ripped it! He set it off with “Hands High” and “Goodbye” before bringing out Swoope to perform the hit single “Fools Gold“. He closed out the set with the NYC anthem “In My City” and he had the whole crowd rocking with him all the way.

As Corey Red came on stage to introduce the final act, loyal fans beckoned for him to spit at least a 16. Red surrendered to the calls and delivered a acapella that reminded us all why he is legend.

Finally the closing act was introduced and Desiree Renee walked on to the spot lit stage and delivered a spoken word piece titled “Kill The Rats”. If anybody had developed an ego during the night or the spirit of pride was lurking around, everything was put into perspective at this moment. As she adressed the condition of man’s hearts and the lack of focus on the “Great Commission” you couldn’t help feeling her prophetic conviction. The line that will be remembered most is “You may think you’re a star, but what you really are is a star spelt backwards”.
