[devo.] The Hurricane is Over (Sandy Relief Project)

It is always interesting to see how a community comes together after facing destruction. Some are gripping their chests from the heartache that they are still facing today, and others are back to normality, going about their days as if the hurricane never happened. Obviously some were affected harder than others, so it makes sense that not everyone is on the same page. All in all, though, i can honestly say that NYC came out fighting strong and got its presence back on the map.

We are still contributing to the victims who are grieving, and hoping that eventually every one of us can overcome this tragedy with heads high. I was on the good part of Staten Island, so fortunately, nothing major happened to my family except for power outages. Although, the first week here after the hurricane looked like a war zone, because everyone was out and about trying to find gas and generators. The basic necessities were scarce, and considering how advanced our society is today, you can imagine how shocking it was to live in that moment. Life was not taken for granted during the first month of re-cooperation, and in some ways, that was a blessing for us.

We were humbled significantly. Even though the trauma of losing lives and material possessions are painful, we can find ways to learn about faith and hope through them. Sadly, it seems to be a lot easier to rely on God when we have nothing, and this devastating storm left some of us close to that.

No one can really put a blame on natural disasters because  no one is in control of them, so trying to make sense of them is pointless. The only thing we can take from this is maybe a little bit more trust in God and a little bit less trust in our possessions.
