What’s Your Purpose

Clear-Sense-Of-Purpose

Why was I created? What is my purpose? How about you, do you know why you are here?  Why do you exist? Do you have a purpose?

I mean, were we created to consume hours of youtube videos while enjoying a bag of Funions on the couch? Really, how many twerking clips of Miley Cirus can you watch? Or maybe our purpose is to solve the infinite levels of Candy Crush.  That’s definitely not my mission in life.  I can’t make it out of level 92.  It’s been about a month. Tips, anyone?

Seriously though, discovering our purpose is not only confusing but intimidating.  Often leading one to mindless attempts at life as we piece together the puzzle of such mystery.  One clueless attempt after another.

Kyle Idleman, in his book Gods at War, wrote, “The object of your worship will determine your future and define your life.”

Read that again, I had to, and let the full weight of that statement shatter your worldview.

He goes on to say, “…worship is a built-in human reflex to put your hope in something or someone and then chase after it.”  In other words the very thing we hope for, chase after, sacrifice for, worship, is the very thing that will ultimately define our identity and determine our future, our purpose.

What if our pursuit of Jesus consumed us?  And I don’t mean our casual, halfhearted, if I have time for God attempts.  I mean, a pursuit of Jesus that truly CONSUMES us.  Much like that eighth grade crush. And our relentless efforts to be noticed day in and day out. To do what ever it takes, no matter what the cost or how outlandish the deed!

Imagine, if our pursuit of Jesus carried that intensity and passion.  What would we reflect? How would HE define us? How would HE determine the course of our future?

To discover our purpose we need to relentlessly pursue Jesus.

Proverbs 20:24a states, “A person’s steps are directed by the Lord.” In chapter three verse five and six Solomon writes, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Trust in and in ALL your ways submit to the Lord our God. Now that’s wisdom that will define your identity, shape your future and establish your purpose.  Or we can just continue playing Candy Crush level after level until Jesus returns, then ask him.
