Bronx church looted and torched. Rap Fest Radio interviews the pastor.

(NY Post, December 10, 2009)

On December 9, 2010 a Bronx church was looted and torched yesterday after its interior walls were tagged with hate-filled satanic messages, authorities and the pastor said.

The sickening screeds spray-painted inside the Glory of Christ Church, on Ellis Avenue in Parkchester, included a pentagram surrounded by three 6s as well as “f – – – you,” “crip killer” and “get off our block,” said the pastor, the Rev. Raymond Talavera.

About $300 in parishioner donations was stolen, he added.

Cops said the two-alarm blaze, which seriously injured one firefighter and left two others with minor injuries, appeared to be set using a canister of gasoline that was found inside. Police are trying to determine whether a hate crime was committed.

“Get Off Our Block” graffiti spraypainted inside the main entrance door to the Glory of Christ Church in the Parkchester section of the Bronx.

Talavera, who said he has never received any threats, was left dumbfounded by the attack.

“We’ve all been blindsided that there was any hatred against us,” he said.
