Philadelphia Gospel Rappers Sweep the Hip Hop Category in the 2011 John Lennon Writing Contest

The John Lennon Song Writing Contest is an international song writing contest that has been running since 1997. Open to both professional and amateur songwriters there is always a huge response and competition is always fierce.

In 2011, Gospel Rappers from Philadelphia absolutely swept the Hip Hop category. Round 1 of the category was taken by the song “Have Plenty” by Red Baron and Round 2 was won by the song entitled “First Love” by MC Psalmist who is also a gospel rapper from Philadelphia AND is also the producer of the Round 1 winning song, “Have Plenty”!

It was MC Psalmist’s own production company 3Fifths Multimedia that produced both of these songs. MC Psalmist was overjoyed and told us the following.

“Clearly this is a great day for Philadelphia Gospel Rappers. I want to thank Red Baron for his great work on “Have Plenty” and also to thank the organization for choosing our music to go forward in the John Lennon Song Writing Competition.”

This means that MC Psalmist and his production company 3Fifths Multimedia are already prize winners in the 2010 contest and are in a position to win even more accolades as the contest progresses to the final. There are twelve Categories and then one winner will be chosen from these twelve. The final winner receives the $20,000 Song of the Year Award.
