Sidewalk-Prophets-Merry-Christmas-To-You-300x300As temperatures are dropping and decorations are filling homes, it’s definitely beginning to look like Christmas. Aside from the excitement about the holiday season, I am even more excited about Sidewalk Prophets new Christmas album, “Merry Christmas to You”. Now you may remember Sidewalk Prophets who stepped in the music scene in late 2009. Their debut album “These Simple Truths” delivered a No. 1 and No. 3 single and named them Dove Awards New Artist of the Year in 2010. It’s clear that there is definitely some talent here.

Now I’m going to be honest. I’m not a huge fan of Christmas albums. I feel that each album has the same sound and the only difference is the artist singing the songs. Playing “Merry Christmas to you” had me excited because it’s Sidewalk Prophets but also anxious to see if this band would change my opinion on Christmas albums. Well they did! “Merry Christmas to you” is by far an excellent album. It’s a very whimsical and fun. I loved how Sidewalk Prophets put their own spin on Christmas music. This album presents a variety of genres from blues to acoustic to pop. There is a great balance between ballads, worship melodies, and jazz inspired songs. The album is composed of some of your favorite carols such as “White Christmas” and “Silent Night” and introduces some originals from the band.

If I had to choose two of my favorite songs from “Merry Christmas to you” it would be “White Christmas” and “Hope Was Born This Night”. When playing “White Christmas” it feels like it’s Christmas. I loved how the song was full of horns and organs. It reminded me of the time that will soon to be spent with family and friends. Let’s not forget Francesca Battistelli wonderful voice that was a bonus to the fun melody. Now I’m from the south so I never have experienced a white Christmas, but this song causes me to dream of waking up on December 25th with my driveway covered in snow so that I to can experience a white Christmas. It’s so easy to get caught up in the wrong things during the holiday seasons. “Hope Was Born This Night” was a great reminder of the true meaning of Christmas. I loved the sounds of the chimes and the electric guitar riffs, but the chorus is what stood out the most. “Glory to God in the highest. Peace on Earth, goodwill to all men. Let all of the world, sing the chorus of joy , because hope was born this night.” Isn’t that so beautiful! This song is a good reminder of the night that Jesus was born and how that very day hope was given to the world. It’s such a worshipful song at heart.

All in All Sidewalk Prophets out did themselves with their latest Christmas album. With 23 days until the Christmas Holiday, “Merry Christmas To You” should be played in every home. If you’re looking for a new sound for the Holiday season, this is album for you.
