Young Disciple: The Series

Published on October 4, 2014

Remember when you were a newborn baby in the faith? Your fresh pair of eyes is now seeing the light for the first time and the world that you knew so well is completely foreign to you. You were told you’re a new creature in Christ, your sins are forgiven and you have a brand new start in life. You feel different and excited about this new pilgrimage you are about to face. Then BANG – you step into the world and although everything you heard about the gospel is true and you’re ready to live a life that glorifies God, the world hasn’t changed. In fact, it’s a world full of wolves, except now you’re a sheep in their playground. As a sheep, you know you’re protected by the amazing Shepherd but you know you’re also surrounded by wolves who are constantly trying to change you back to your old ways. It’s a difficult transition stage in every Christian’s life; to show those around you that you’re not who you used to be anymore, while at the same time trying to figure out who you are in Christ. Do you remember those days? I certainly remember mine!  In the new TV series “Youth Disciple” presented by Double Edge Ministries, the main character, Eli, an ex-gangster (played by Christian rapper, Buck Barnabas) faces this same challenge. His past is erased from God’s memory but try telling that to a world that doesn’t forget.

I want to encourage each and every one of you to support this amazing series. If it already sounds familiar, that’s probably because it is. It started as a YouTube series which had such an amazing response that “Youth Disciple” will no longer be on YouTube but now on TV (moving on up!). The series airs every Thursday on Launch TV at 8pm EST and re-airs 11pm EST for the west coaster viewers, so don’t miss it! Kret8or, the director and writer of the series said that, “Young Disciple wasn’t created to glorify “street life” but to show the realities of life and how God can change man when he gives it to God.” What amazing thing to portray for the world to see.

Being a fan of this series since it aired on YouTube, I must say (as a former film student and a believer in the faith) there is truly nothing like this series out there.  It’s gritty, engaging and realistic. The first time I saw it, I was really impressed. It didn’t have that “corny” feel most Christian productions might have and it didn’t abandon the gospel either. It’s very well balanced and I encourage all of you to check it out and stay tuned for more dope productions from Double Edge Ministries, from music to films!
