Fame is a track from Deshawn White’s newest album Before the Ceiling Falls. The track talks about whether artists are going to fit into the mainstream music industry or whether they are going to do what it takes to stand out. It asks, “Are you going to go with the grain or against the grain?” A lot of artists in the mainstream music industry proclaim to have a message of hope, they also proclaim to have a desire to see their fellow brothers and sisters free from poverty and free from the “hood”, but they still declare a message of violence and oppression. That message steers a generation in the wrong direction and their words impact this new generation that is wildly on the rise. So, Fame asks the question, “Are you willing to change your content to see your environment change for the better? Or are you in it for the fame and self-glorification?”
